How to Save Money on Your Energy Bills
This page shows simple ways to save money by changing daily habits. Saving energy helps you pay less and keep your home comfortable and safe. You do not need expensive equipment to save energy. Small changes can make a real difference.
Simple ways to save energy at home

- Keep your home at a comfortable, not too high temperature:
- Winter: 18 -20°;
- Summer: below 26°.
- Lower heating at night or when you are not at home.
- Close doors between rooms to keep heat inside.
- In winter, use curtains or blinds to keep heat in.
- In summer, close curtains during the day to keep heat out.
- Do not block radiators: to ensure they work in an energy-saving manner, they should not be covered.- Keep sofas, heavy curtains away from them;- This can energy consumption up to 12%.
- Take shorter showers: four minutes are enough.
- Use warm water instead of hot water.
- Turn off the tap while brushing your teeth.
- Wash clothes at lower temperatures when possible:- 40°C instead of 60°C (cotton)- 30°C (synthetics)- Use eco programs and wash full loads- Dry clothes on a clothes airer instead of using a dryer.
- Turn off lights when you leave a room.
- Unplug chargers and devices when not in use.
- Use energy-saving light bulbs (LED)
- Use appliances only when needed
- When buying new electrical appliances such as TVs, fridges or washing machines:
- check the energy efficiency class on the EU energy label;
- and choose the right size for your needs.
- Use lids on pots to cook faster.
- Match the pot size to the stove ring.
- Turn off the stove a little earlier and use the remaining heat.
- When baking, turn off the oven earlier and use the residual heat. Doing without preheating also saves electricity.
- Look at your bill to understand how much you use.
- Check if the bill is estimated or based on real readings.
- If possible, send your meter readings regularly.
- Compare different energy offers to get the best energy deal.
